These pups were bought to replace some frankly ridiculously bass heavy Seymour Duncan Blackout actives. Package arrived on time, and fitted to the instrument the same day.
Installation is a breeze, the Fishman website has diagrams for all the common wiring configurations. My setup is 2xvol, 1xtone and a 3-way blade, which is partially documented, so I emailed Fishman support and got a personalised diagram for my setup the same day. Nice one Fishman Support!
Overall these are really extremely high output pickups, very well balanced across the frequency range, and the three voices make them highly adaptable. Voice one is an active voice modelled on EMG, voice 2 is modelled on a hot PAF (with unique 2 notch EQ bump), and voice 3 is a single coil not unlike a strat or tele style pickup. Unlike conventional pickups, rolling back the volume doesn’t degrade the signal, so there’s no need for a treble bleed or anything of that sort, in fact the volume knob works more like a volume pedal, and means you can dial back the volume for highly dynamic playing styles, or whack it up to full volume and punish your pre-amp. Hopefully it is obvious why the 2xVol 1xTone makes sense with these pups.
This is my second set of Fishman Fluence Moderns, and the 7-string variant delivers everything I hoped for. Easily the best pickups on the market, I wouldn’t consider anything else!
