I've tested two units for a few days and both had the same issue: after a while they just stopped working! So in my experience this device is just unreliable (imagine a live situation where suddenly all effects are gone) and the low overall score shows my disappointment because I would really would have loved this device if it had worked properly.
I hope that a future upgrade of the hardware will fix this issue.
I like the fact that the device "only" contains sound shaping effects. The palette offered is very exhaustive and was exactly what I needed. The whole concept is brilliant and versatile.
The firmware updates are very easy to install and keep their promises (i.e. addition of a tuner) and I have no doubts that more effects will be added (i.e. a phaser).
It's well built, solid, heavy, it looks good and doesn't take much place on the pedal board.
The concept is very interesting with lots of sounds and possible tweaks (parameters, TonePrint).
The user manual is very basic, but there's plenty of info available on YouTube and the operation is quite intuitive.
It's really a nice concept that has the potential to make this product a real winner on the market (at a reasonable price).
Another downside: I found both units that I had for a few days a bit too noisy (hum) and one was more than the other.
So to conclude: although the Plethora X5 is a very nice product with lots of potential on the market, my personal experience is that it's unreliable (I hope that it's only bad luck on my side and not a concept flaw). Let's hope that TC Electronic will release a more mature and better version of this.
