I have ordered DSP processor for my studio. I had to take the biggest version with FIR functionality which I don't need, only because that is the only variant which supports AES/EBU input and output.
I use PEQ's and filters for studio monitor management (2.1 system). It does its job very good, but has several disadvantages:
- device itself is very loud, because of the fan - which runs on full speed all the time. That's not a concern on stage, but it's a big problem for home/studio usage. I measured noise 61dB SPL 1m from the processor.
- sound quality is overall very good! I use digital input and output, as well as analog output for subwoofer, so i can't say too much about DAC/ADC's quality
- software does its job, but UI experience is terrible
- every few minutes i hear a crack in speakers. it's not there without the DSP, so i believe it must be the reason. I can live with that, but it's annoying - i might actually look for another DSP soon, because of this and fan noise
I still think those devices can do great job if racked, programmed once and used for club/stage/touring speaker management!
