Genres:
I was searching ultimate snare suitable for different genres which I play like stoner,
sludge, death and doom metal. Mostly for loud applications with rimmshots but still clear, sensivity and warm in any other kind of drumming.
Low tension:
Great with 2-ply heads, with which you can achive very fat "Memphis" sound.
Warm, with some nice overtone but still clear and controlable with very huge rimmshot which will give a smile on your sound engineer face. Recommend it for stoner and rock application where you need cannon instead machine gun.
Medium tension:
Medium sustain, warm and quick full punch. Reference sound for slow patterns and blast beats. Good sounding rimmshot but it not necessary to cut through whole band. I think it's easiest tension to control even if you plaing ghost notes.
High tension:
14x8 it's atypical size for piccolo sound but still you can reach that also crack is nice, rimmshot is loud and sharp. It can be usable for blasts as good as for d'n'b if you like that kind of overtones.
Quality:
Premier League - no more to say.
Summary:
It's very good and versatile drum but not for all drummers. It has more "meat" and if you want reach full potential you need to punch it harder than flat snares. Also with 8" of height and weight you will need heavier snare stand which has basket low than standard stands (maybe legs with spikes), necessarily if you sitting low.
