I'm using this speaker in a modified 1 x 12" Fender 30 combo that now has normal AB763 blackface circuit and channel switching PCB removed. I normally use a Super Reverb of 50W Twin Reverb (modified to 2 powertubes with Bassman output transformer) but for some clubs these amps are overpowered and besides that, they're too heavy.
The Fender 30 actually has a Vibrolux Reverb cabinet and chassis and is a little compacter and not that heavy. With the stock 80's speaker, I can't stand up to our fairly loud drummer and other guitar player using a 4 x 10" tweed Bassman. When my Twin Reverb broke down, I used my other Fender 30 that has a Red Fang Eminence and I was surprised that the little single 12" combo had enough power for the (club) gig. While the price of the red fang went through the roof (bought it for 129 Euro, a few months later is was 149 and current price is 249 I believe; ridiculous!!), I was looking for a high efficiency speaker with more or less similar balance in tone.
Rumours say the Wizard is actually a Eminence take at the Celestion G12H (which is excellent for single 12 Fender amps like the Deluxe Reverb) and I must say, it's close and personally, I find it better. The Wizard is well balanced and has plenty of tight lows, the mids are pleasant but not dominant or "nosy" and the highs are also rich but not too dominant as with many new speakers. Right after installation the speaker was a bit harsch but when it's broken in, I'm sure it will take some of highs off. For now, setting treble a bit lower than normal does the trick allright. Best thing of this speaker, is that it's - just like the red fang - a high efficiency speaker.
Many people don't realise that to double your power, you need a 3 dB gain. Also many people don't realise a normal speaker has an efficienc
