I bought this to replace the metal coat hanger the previous owner of my bass had inflicted on it. I did not expect much, to be honest, except that I thought it might look less embarrassing than the obvious coat hanger.
However, I have been pleasantly surprised at the improvement in tone this tailgut has given the bass. It is hard to say exactly what is better, except that there is a richness and colour to the tone that previously wasn't there. I've made a number of improvements to the bass, but this was the first so I had a chance to evaluate the difference the tailgut made on its own before adding it to the raft of changes.
The actual fitting was easy and although the small, two-screwed clamp doesn't look like it is overly strong, in fact it has proved completely up to the job and the tailgate hasn't moved at all.
One installation point - the steel is extremely strong and I decided against cutting it as I was afraid snips or a hacksaw would break apart the steel strands. As a result, I've ended up with a protruding end in an awkward position at the front of the bass. I've taped it back and it doesn't show so all is well in the end. However, a good tip would be to make sure that you check where the ends will be before starting installation, to make sure you're happy you've adjusted the positioning suitably.
