I needed a replacement for the machines on a vintage 1974 Gibson Ripper Bass. The originals were unbranded and the E had come loose on the worm drive, and all were quite badly nickel plated (flaking metal). The Schallers appear exactly the same design and fit to the instrument. I originally tried to order bright chrome, but these disappeared out of my basket, and as I needed the replacement not knowing if they would ever be available again I ordered the Black Chrome. The Bright Chrome would have matched up with the tailpiece. The headstock is lacquered black, so the Black Chrome also look cool on the headstock. The only negative is that they came heavily greased and extremely difficult to wipe up to reasonably clean. The grease is some modern formula and I have yet to find a solvent that will clean it up.
