While the alternatives (Shure WL185, WL184, MX150B/C, Sennheiser MKE40) all sound very well for male speakers, the DPA offers greater intelligibility with less EQ for female speakers. For male speakers, especially those with deep voices (fundamentals below 200 Hz), because the DPA has less low end, it requires some EQ below 250 Hz. Personally, judging by the unprocessed sound, I prefer the DPA for female speakers and the Sennheiser MKE40 or Shure WL184 for male speakers.
The build quality is very good, and cable noise is very well isolated from the capsule, which sits on a shock mount.
The cons are the price (but the DPA quality is unbeatable) and the fact that all DPA CORE microphones require 5V for full performance, which means that using it with a Zoom F2 or Rode Wireless GO is not feasible.
