This is a beautiful Lyre. Having attended a Waldorf school long ago the shape and design are familiar and very attractive; and the sound is superb. This seems to be one of the few Lyres with a 2 octave + range. The low D string is wonderfully warm and resonant; the highest strings are bright and clear; and every string in between has just the right character. The Lyre has a beautiful acoustic, and rings in the hand long after the strings are plucked. I prefer to use a minor pentatonic tuning, DFGAC, and this works perfectly well. Tuning holds well for about I week or so once the stings have found their tension, the pegs are stiff initially, but they come good. Thomann Staff helped select the “Aolis Klangspiele Kalevala Soft Bag” which is a pretty fair fit for the Lyre, and has made it very portable and well protected, even when travelling by train. I’ve played woodwind instruments for many years, but now the simplicity and tunefulness of this Lyre have made it a regular companion; there is nothing not to like about this lovely instrument.
