I have been wanting to upgrade my pc sound ,the Logitech z2300 i used for a decade. I had tested several speakers for 2 weeks each. Speakers like edifiers, swans m200mkiii+, jbl`s and a couple more i cant remember. You should know this: deciding which speaker is the best is subjective. There is no best speaker. Personal taste is a big factor. A speaker might perform a tiny better than the other of course but you might hate the sound. For me the mr624 are the best.
I`m using them in a 6 by 4 meter room.
First thing i noticed when i unpacked them was how solid they looked and felt. The design is elegant and will look good on most desks/speaker stands. They are not that heavy. You would expect them to weigh more considering the size of these. The sound the mr 624 bring is excellent. Its amazing how much more detail i can hear in music. In some tracks i could hear a 3 layered string which i couldn`t hear before. Imaging is really well done. While the sound stage is good i wish it had just a little bit more of that magic(jbl magic). The highs are clear, cymbals hi hats etc don`t lose audibility nor clarity and the lows are awesome. You would need a subwoofer for bass heavy music like hardstyle, trap or dubstep. You won`t need a subwoofer for other edm like house, trance techno etc since the lows are deliciously low and its exceptional responsive for tight short kicks. The mids are great. The sound signature is similar to swans m200mkiii+ but has better lows and a tad better highs. The swans had marginally better mids. I use them on my computer via the digital optical output on a soundcard, feeding into a topping e30 connecting to the mackies with RCA cables. Using USB and balanced cables would be better of course.
Making music is even more fun now. I can express music better with more detail in the sound design.
Don`t look at the mackie mr624 solely as studio monitors. They work terrific for use in home cinema setups for gaming and regular activities. I`m using them for enjoying music, movies and games, less for producing because i am rediscovering audio. No time for producing. That`s how awesome they are.
pros:
+6.5 inch woofers
+great sound with plenty of lows
+less hiss than other powered studio monitors i tried
+not heavy
+not fatiguing. Can listen to for hours on end.
+extremely powerful. I won`t use more than 50% of it power in most cases.
+class a/b amp that doesn`t get overly hot
cons:
-even if it has less hiss than most powered studio monitors, no hiss -would be better
-no tactile feedback on volume knob besides the middle point.
-flat design makes people put things on the speakers. DON`T PUT YOUR STUFF ON THE GOD D*MN SPEAKERS
