First of all. This guitar looks awesome and the pickups are so versatile. The guitar was set up perfectly from the factory, and it plays like a dream. Feels good in the hand and the neck finishing is matte, compared to the body which is gloss. The dry switch works great. So five out of five for sound and playability. Also, the neon yellow is a great and visible colour when gigging.
Now, for the build quality. The box was opened by a guitar tech in Yamaha Germany before it was sent out. Extremely reassuring, and definitely also why the playability is so good right out the box.
If I have to nit-pick: It is clear that this guitar has been build down to a price. The volume-control cover at the back is not recessed, and there is no neck binding. I'm sure it was done to differentiate it from the standard series Revstar, and not because of any real cost saving.
In a few places, edges that should have been rounded off appear a bit flat. So, the body is not completely uniform along the edge. Anyway, I actually like the fact that a real human being has been involved in the manufacturing process, and that it shows.
The frets are well polished, and the fret-board kind of look semi-scalloped along the edge. Not much, but it's there. Along the neck, where the yellow paint borders the fret-board, one can feel a tiny ridge. This is inevitable, as the matte finish neck has not been lacquered. Not really an issue, but it's there.
So, all in all, would I buy this one again? Yes! The Revstar look is awesome and so is the sound. I hope it becomes a classic shape. I really like it.
However, for this particular guitar to be my favourite instrument, it should have had a neck-binding, and a recessed electronics-cover. So, to be honest, get a Revstar! It's awesome in almost every way. However, if you can afford it, go for one from the standard series with a neck binding and a recessed back-cover. You will not regret it.
