My initial impressions of this new version of the replica of the iconic MS-20 are quite positive.
The filters : Compared to the first version, they are less aggressive. The first filter feels drier and more "utilitarian," while the second is rounder and warmer. It adds a rich coloration to the basic oscillators, enhancing the low end and adding depth. The difference is noticeable when switching between the two, as it broadens the spectrum.
Sound quality : From what I've been able to compare so far, this version of the MS-20 strikes the right balance. It benefits from four Sallen-Key type filters, which seem different from those in version 1. The quality is excellent, and for the price, the level of modularity it offers is a great deal.
The oscillators deliver a solid punch but are well-balanced to avoid easy saturation. I quickly tested the CV input (V/Oct) and trigger input, and they both sequenced perfectly.
What really sets this version apart is the addition of sync and FM modulation between the oscillators. This feature significantly expands its potential for sound design. At this price, it's a no-brainer!
